Val said last week was cold -

Val Miller Steinberg Great ride today...really, no woman was left behind due to gracious riders who assisted with flat tires, flying seats and water bottle cages stuck in pedals! A little brisk, a few rain drops, but wonderful to be out riding off the bounties of Thanksgiving! Thanks Ladies for showing up; 14 strong at 44 degrees! :)

Be sure to check - If the temperature is 42 degrees or below - crawl back in bed and enjoy your day!

November 26th, 2010 - Ironman AZ and NWLB Support

NWLB is very proud of the AZ Ironman participants!!!

It was an unbelievable event.... and Jackie and Tracy - YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!!!

It was a great day of NWLB riding down to watch the event, standing in the rain, and hanging out in the dark as Ironman racers ran across the finish line.

Swim finish at Ironman from Mill Avenue bridge is an amazing sight.

Tracy Britton waiving at the NWLB Gang!!  Looking good on the bike Tracy.

We saw Jackie on the bike - looking good, but didn't get to see her finish - I'm sure she looked as happy as Chrissie Wellington.  I do know that Kathy Zanath was at the finish and was happy to hang the Ironman Medal on Jackie - sooooo proud of you gals.

OTHER NWLB Events and Sightings..... Congrats to those that conquered the El Tour de Tucson - Su-Shien and Anna Natcher, and many more...
Nice to see NWLB in many events, and making us proud.

October 31st - No Witches Left Behind

NWLB on Halloween - The Witches Ride was soooo much fun.  Thanks for being casual gals and for having fun.  We were not out of the parking lot before my hat came off, then Jeannie's and then Lisa's.... but with all the costume failures, we managed to stay together and NO WITCH WAS LEFT BEHIND.  Thanks Terry for the idea - it was a great success.

We did Tempe Loop last week without the hills... but since the Women's Half Marathon is this week, thought we could do the Tempe Loop again - so we can support the 50 plus NWLB/Fresh Hair gals running the race - we surely will be the happiest group in the mix.  It will be the same route as last week, but the good news  we will start at 6:30 AM, the run starts at 7AM, so by the time we cycle down to 68th and McDowell some NWLB gals should be coming by this spot.  If we can make it across McDowell, we can try to catch the runners again on Curry.  It might be tough to get around the race course, but with our bicycling skills ;-) we will surely find a way through the crowds.  Hope to see you on the run or the ride.

The weekly Friday runs have been another great opportunity to support each other... It's way more fun training with a group - definitely motivates and gets you out of your comfort zone.  So put on those shoes, and come on out.  Lisa K, even has several people climbing Camelback after the run - you guys are crazy!!!!  ... so join us for a walk/run/hike or just come for coffee!!

News for TEAM NWLB / FRESH HAIR - November 7th Women's Half Marathon.
We will meet at the Northeast corner of Indian School and Scottsdale Road at 6:30AM - not sure what the crowd will look like at that spot, but once we meet, then we can reposition ourselves for the start of the race - Have fun gals... and see you on the course.

Thanks to all our sponsors.

October 24th - Camelback Loop - Come on out for a ride around Camelback.  We'll venture through Mummy Mountain, down to Sanctuary and then Lafayette.  With a strong push down Lafayette, then up and around Angie's Hill.  We will then regroup at Camelback Village for a refuel - and then around the Camels Head and back through the golf course to Paradise.

I want to say a big THANK YOU to Lisa and Michelle for not only being a big supporter of NWLB, but in helping to make us look way more professional.  We now have Lisa as our Photog and Michelle as our Marketeer.  You gals are amazing and your donation of time and skills are much appreciated.

We have been missing our Safety Director lately, I'm sure Laura is still educating one cyclist/driver at a time on proper cycling etiquette - thanks Laura.  And thank you to all the regulars that continue to come out, help lead/sweep the group, and those that can actually make it out that early on Sunday mornings ;-).

News for Team NWLB/Fresh Hair - OMGosh - you should see the running shirts - they are adorable... thanks to Terry's persistence that we had to have a more fashionable shirt - we have succeeded.  CAN'T WAIT TO SHARE them on the October 31st NWLB Witches Ride.  The weekly Friday runs have been another great opportunity to support each other... It's way more fun training with a group - definitely motivates and gets you out of your comfort zone.  So put on those shoes, and come on out.  Lisa K, even has several people climbing Camelback after the run - you guys are crazy!!!

Don't forget November 7th - Women's First Half Marathon - NWLB will have over 40 runners. WOW

See you this Friday for a run... or Sunday for the Ride!!

October 17th Lose the Training Wheels Success - Thanks Val!

October 17th - Lose The Training Wheels Fundraising Ride.  Val - great job!!!  Thank you to everyone that came out for the fundraising ride.  We had about 20 people, and the men were well behaved for this event.  Well at least in the B group ;-)  The A group tackled the Mummy Mountain Hills, while the B group got a head start out to Deer Valley Airport.  It was an very enjoyable day, with NO WOMAN OR MAN LEFT BEHIND.  Cindy R and Jackie are still doing long rides trying to get prepared for Ironman AZ - glad we can help with your mileage.  Great ride!!  Christina

October 10th - Via Linda Loop

*******NEW START TIME 6:30AM - October 17th through end of November**********

October 17th - A reminder that Val/NWLB will have a charity ride to raise awareness/and raise funds for Lose The Training Wheels Camp.  The ride is open to all - Men and Women.  We will be riding the Mayo/Deer Valley Airport Loop, approximately 30 miles, then back to Paradise Bakery.

October 10th - We had about thirteen gals this Sunday.... I was very shocked and proud to see so many gals show up for this ride, considering you just finished Tour de Scottsdale the weekend before. Since we had a small group we headed out together and found our way out to Via Linda Hills.  We had two new gals on the ride and they were quite strong - welcome to the group and thanks for coming out.  As we hit the hills, we naturally broke into two groups, but had a regroup at the Larkspur Gate.  No flats, and no whining - so we added a little loop off of Mountain View and 124th just to mix it up.  Great fun, thanks for riding, see you this Sunday for our charity ride.

Also - I received several comments regarding the NWLB showing at the event and how supportive the gals were to each other.  WAY TO GO!!!  In fact, I was approached by a local sponsor that wanted to know if we had a cycling team.  They would like to sponsor a NWLB Cycling Team..... soooo, am curious to know if anyone would be interested in a NWLB cycling team??? Send me your feedback.

A finishing note - Terry came out to share with us her witches outfit for the ride on the 31st -  don't forget the Witch Theme.  If you are registered for the Womens Half Marathon November 7th... be sure to come on out October 31st and pick up your NWLB/Fresh Hair Team Goodie Bag/Shirt for the November 7th Half Marathon.

See you this Friday for our run... or Sunday for the Ride!!

October 3rd Ride and Congratulations to the Tour de Scottsdale Riders

Congratulations to those that completed the Tour de Scottsdale - NWLB had a great showing at the race and rocked the event with amazing finishes - Way to Go!!

Last Sunday – October 3rd – Tour de Scottsdale - Thompson Peak: I received a call from Val and she was the only one in the parking lot. Our guess was NWLB gals were either riding TdS or sleeping in... by the time I made it to the parking lot - we had 7 gals ready to ride up to the start of the TdS race. We had a slight delay in the parking lot with Jeannie's tire, got it fixed and headed north to the event..... now we were pushing it, and I was still amazed the gals were able to talk at this pace. As we started up Thompson Peak - we got a flat.... so Val and I, with Lisa's camera - took off in hopes of seeing the start. As we entered the parking, most of the riders had already pulled out, but we were lucky enough to see Marianne and a couple others beginning their journey. Then we realized if we went to the top of the marketplace on Thompson Peak - the lead riders were just coming back through... we got to see everyone (the flat tire gang made it back to us, but I don't think they were able to see anyone - they were there in spirit for sure). We saw Amy, Theresa, Marianne, Kathy, Terry, Cindy, Jackie, Michelle, Melissa, Kelly N., Angela, Tricia - I'm sure there are others... but everyone went by so fast, it was fun to be a spectator. Congratulations again, you gals rocked the race! Share your stories and we can post next week or on facebook - send them to me!
